Deck 9: Develop People With Coaching and Feedback
1
Why do you think Larry is using this approach to coaching Evan? Is his approach effective? Why or why not?
Mr. EW addressed his concern to HR director SHW. EW was unhappy with his superior as he treated him like a rookie. On the other end, the superior LR is confident enough with the way he works, and argues with director affirming, he just wanted EW to get away from his theoretical knowledge and implement the things practically in the workplace.
LR appreciates the knowledge of EW, but always keeps an eye on work procedures of EW to ensure that he is doing well as similar to that of other employees. LR does not allow EW to share his views stating that he lacks in practical knowledge. This frustrates EW, and he raises a complaint against his superior. So, HR director has to take up the challenge of resolving the issue between EW and LR.
LR being at the managerial level showed his interest in developing the skill set of EW. The motive behind LR's approach is to help LR, improvise his contribution to the organization and also focus on his career growth.
The approach chosen by LR will lose its delicacy for the reasons as follows:
• Coaching should be towards improving the skill sets, which can be done only when the participant expresses his views. Here, EW was not given any opportunity to express his interests.
• Coaching should help the participant to understand the situation within the organization. The actions of superior lead EW feel uncomfortable at the work spot.
• Coaching should build one-on-one relation between the superior and the peer, but there was a clash between EW and LR approach.
• The coach is supposed to listen to his peer, but LR lacked this ability as he did not listen to the points put forth by EW.
Managerial coaching is important as it improve the skill sets, enhancing the performance through in time feedbacks and other approaches.

How would you describe the life values and philosophies of the two brothers? What feedback would you give to Roscoe Jenkins and Sheriff Otis Jenkins to change their individual behavior in order to improve their relationship?
At childhood RS often had a competition with his siblings and cousins, and won most of those. RS was jealous as he was not encouraged by his parents and was never supported by siblings and cousins. Mostly, RS and his brother SO had a clash at their meetings. Later on RS left his home and started his own talk show and changed his name to host the show. RS also published a book by the name "the team of me".
During a meet with his family mates, RS decides to change his attitude and behavior. This leads to the regaining of trust amongst his family. At the end RS changes the name of his reality show with his original name.
Based on the priorities in their lives, both RS and OS had a different life values and philosophies. Brother OS on one end was satisfied, as he could do what he wants to. On the other end RS was dissatisfied with his life. Consider a situation, where RS had a crush with a girl named LS, but failed to marry her because of his brother. This led to a clash between both of them. Here, RS was dissatisfied as he valued other things, leaving his family.
Change in behavior of RS and OS is needed, as both are equally affected by the clashes they had against each other. Feedbacks in order to change their behavior are as follows:
• RS and OS should have mutual understanding. Both of them should be self-justified before taking any decision.
• As both of them have a barrier of relationship, they have a purpose to change their behavior. So, taking behaviorally oriented decision will solve the issue.
• Both needs to have control over their behavior in the situations being faced.
