Deck 15: Marijuana
1
What are the major differences between C. sativa and C. indica
Marijuana drug is mostly derived from two cannabis family species. The two family species include Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica. These two species differ in their chemical composition, physiological aesthetic, and medical application.
The major differences between Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica are as follows:
•Physical appearance: Cannabis sativa are tall, loosely branched and have long, narrow leaves. In contrast, Cannabis indica are short, densely branched and have wider leaves.
•Medical application: Cannabis sativa is more euphoric, lift the consumer's mood and therapeutically relieves stress. The Cannabis indica relaxes the muscle, works as analgesic and also helps in sleep.
•Chemical composition: Cannabinoids are the active chemicals, which are responsible for medicinal effects. The cannabinoids include tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). Cannabis sativa has high levels of THC and low or no levels of CBD while, Cannabis indica has high levels of CBD and moderate levels of THC.
2
How are hashish and sinsemilla produced
Hashish is made from the resins of cannabis. These resins are present in maximum amount in the flowering tops, less in the leaves, and the stalks contain very little amount of resins.
Sinsemilla is made from the resins present in the dried flowering tops of the female plants. Removing the male plants from the fields before the female plants can become pollinated increases their resin production, which can be used to produce high-grade marijuana, commonly known as sinsemilla.
3
When and where was the earliest recorded medical use of cannabis
The earliest reference to the use of Cannabis was date back to 2737 BC by Chinese emperor Shen Nung. He called cannabis as "Liberator of Sin." He used it widely for treating gout, weakness, malaria, rheumatism, constipation, beriberi and brain related problems. Social use of this plant was dated back to 1000 AD by the Muslim world and North Africa.
