Deck 13: Community Health Assessments, Planning, and Implementation
What is community?
Community is all who are affected by public health practice and research, usually referring to those within a specific geographic area, but in some circumstances, not necessarily defined by geographical boundaries.
What is the value of public deliberation in solving public health problems?
Public deliberation engages citizens in dialogue to consider competing arguments and relevant ideas and facts from all corners of the community so they can be discussed and weighed to make decisions about how to best improve the health of the community.
What is the underlying premise behind community engagement in public health issues and problems?
As in effective quality-improvement programs, the people who are closest to the problem often have the solution to the problem. When citizens are given the opportunity to have a voice in improving community health, their participation can help compensate for existing social determinants of health.
