Memo:
February 24, 2017
TO: EM
FROM: JS, CPA
SUBJECT: Additional security to curb evasion of tax and fraudulent tax returns.
The main aim of tax authority is to protect evasion of tax and fraud pertaining to return filed by the taxpayer. Thus, in order to ensure such practice, one additional security has been introduced by IRS (Internal revenue service) according to which the taxpayer is required to provide the driver license or state-issued identification at the time of filling its tax return. This additional security helps cure fraudulent return and tax evasion as every taxpayer is required to provide its identification. Currently, this additional security has been introduced in the states of NY, A and OH.
Thus, in the state of NY, the additional security introduced by IRS require the taxpayer to provide information associated with the driver license such as issuance date, expiration date, identity number so that the identity of the taxpayer can be authenticated at the time of filing the return.
Whereas, the tax department at OH requires the taxpayer to provide the details of a driver license or state issued identification of both the taxpayer and his spouse for filling the return jointly. On the other hand, the tax department of A requires the driver license details such as residence address, issuance date for verifying the taxpayer's identity.
The measure taken by the IRS to inculcate additional security helps protect the tax evasion, fraudulent tax return as a result of which the circulation of the illegitimate money can be cured and the interest of the society can be a safeguard.
In case of any further clarity pertaining to the additional security introduced by IRS for the protection of the fraudulent tax return and tax evasion do let me know.
