Deck 17: Tolerances Unilateral and Bilateral, Decimal Dimensions
1
Where is the decimal system of dimensioning used and why?
The decimal system of dimensioning is used almost exclusively in industry because of the ease with which computations can be made. In addition, the dimension can be measured with precision instruments to a high degree of accuracy and is required for Computer Numerical Control (CNC) applications.
2
Explain decimal tolerances.
Decimal tolerances can be applied in both the English and the metric systems of measurement. Tolerances on decimal dimensions that are expressed in terms of two, three, four, or more decimal places may be given on a drawing in several ways. One of the common methods of specifying a tolerance that applies on all dimensions is to use a note.
