Deck 5: The Design of the Study
1
Construct a one-group research design using students as a data source on the topic of behavior.
Answers should include a research type from the correlational, pre-posttest, or longitudinal (time-series) approach. Responses should identify a measurable condition regarding students' behavior, including setting (classroom, playground, home, or community), measurement technique (observation, third-party survey, or participant response to an inventory), and potential data analysis.
2
Construct a two-group research design using teachers and students as a data source on the topic of students' behavior.
Responses should include the research types of control-experimental, ex post facto, factorial, or multiple-group designs (like the Solomon four-group). Answers should build on the responses to the first item, and students should recognize the difference between collecting data from one source and collecting it from more than one source.
3
State a cause-and-effect relationship (causal-comparative) using teachers and students as participants, and learning and behavior as variables.
Building on the previous two items, this item adds a second variable. Responses should recognize cause and effect using multiple sources of data and that the data may be different for different variables in a study.
