Distinguish between egocentric disorientation and heading orientation.
Egocentric disorientation refers to the inability to perceive the location of an object with respect to the self-for example, pointing out the location of furniture around you. Heading orientation is the ability to establish a course or direction of where you intend to go. Patients with heading disorientation have no sense of direction; they can describe where they want to go but they cannot set a course.
