Aaron Copland was an important american Composer. Born in new york city on november nineteenth, 1900, he studied music in paris, france, during the early years of the twentieth century. Copland's early works were inspired by Jazz. During the great depression of the 1930s and 1940s, however, he turned to folk songs, using themes from this music in works entitled lincoln portrait, billy the kid, and his masterpiece Appalachian spring. During this period he also wrote scores for films like Of Mice and Men, which is based on john steinbeck's novel of the same name. One of Copland's most famous works is " fanfare for the common man," which appears in a symphony he wrote in the nineteen forties. Copland died on dec. the second, 1990, in Tarrytown, N. York, at the age of 90.
