FINDING A PATIENT'S BALANCE
It is still Monday, November 15, 2010. Anthony Battistuta calls. He would like to know the amount of the charges from November 12 that he is responsible for, assuming that Medicare pays its portion of the total charges. How can you find the amount he is responsible for?
1. Start Medisoft, set the Program Date to November 15, 2010, and restore the data from your last work session.
2. On the Activities menu, click Enter Transactions.
3. In the Chart box, select Anthony Battistuta's chart number.
4. Verify that the Diabetes case is active in the Case box.
5. Look at the Allowed column in the Charges section for the three procedures on 11/12/2010. Add up the amounts in the Allowed column to determine how much Medicare is likely to pay. Since Medicare pays 80 percent of the allowed amount and the patient is responsible for the remaining 20 percent, calculate how much the patient is likely to owe for the November 12th visit.
