Scenario: It has been a busy day and you haven't had time to have lunch. While you're getting gas in your car between your classes and work, you decide to run into the convenience store and grab an egg salad sandwich and a soda. Later that day, after you get home from work, you feel chilled and nauseated and have abdominal pain. When you take your temperature with an oral thermometer, you start to gag and vomit. While you're recovering on the bathroom floor, you notice that the thermometer says your fever is 101°F. A few hours later, while you're lying on the couch watching reruns on TV, you feel impending diarrhea and race back to the bathroom. For the rest of the night, you alternate between vomiting and diarrhea. When you call your mom to tell her of your woes, she says, "It might be Salmonella food poisoning. What did you eat today " It's only then that you remember the egg salad sandwich from the convenience store.
