Jerry Falwell, on his Old Time Gospel Hour show number 595, preached about the Second Coming of Christ. As part of this sermon, he talked about God's wrath that would be poured out on false religions. He cited the Metropolitan Community Church, a gay church founded by Jerry Sloan, his former roommate from his seminary days, as one of these false religions, a "vile and satanic system [that] will one day be utterly annihilated and there will be a celebration in heaven." He also spoke of them as immoral and "brute beasts." Falwell later appeared on a TV talk show in California. Sloan, who was in the audience, asked Falwell why he said these things, and Falwell denied ever saying them. When Sloan said he had a tape of the show, Falwell again made a denial and offered to pay $5,000 if the tape could be produced. Sloan, who had the tape at home, later gave it to Falwell and demanded the $5,000. Did Sloan effectively accept Falwell's offer?
