Anthrax is an infectious disease caused by the Bacillus anthracis,   a gram positive spore forming bacteria. B. anthracis is a gram positive organism that contains cell wall.
Inhalational anthrax is caused by the inhalation of spores of B. anthracis. It is characterized by the cough, respiratory distress, cyanosis and symptoms of meningitis.
As anthrax can be transmitted through the spores, and they cannot be visible to the naked eye, they can infect a great number of people at a time. Spores are also resistant to extreme environmental conditions, so they serve as effective agents of bioterrorism.
