In the demonstration "Becoming Aware of What Is in Focus" on page 24, you saw that we see things clearly only when we are looking directly at them so that their image falls on the cone-rich fovea. But consider the common observation that the things we aren't looking at do not appear "fuzzy," that the entire scene appears "sharp" or "in focus." How can this be, in light of the results of the demonstration?
