The blue area in the painting in Figure is a silhouette of a mountain. The dark area in the foreground represents trees. What happens to your perception of these two areas when you turn the picture upside down? (Hint: Can you see yellow mountains in the foreground of the upside-down picture?) Relate the changes in perception you experience to the determinants of figure and ground discussed in this chapter.
