Preparing for Skill Builder 2
Now that you have a career plan, create a résumé that reflects your plan. For help, visit your college career center and/or one of the many Web sites that offer résumé writing help. Before finalizing your résumé, improve it by using the following assessment procedure.
Résumé Assessment
1. Could a reader understand, within ten seconds, what job you are applying for and that you are qualified for the position on the basis of skills, experience, and/or education?
2. Does the résumé include an objective that clearly states the position being applied for (such as sales rep)?
3. Does the résumé list skills or experience that support the claim that you can do the job? (For example, if you don't have sales experience, does the résumé list skills developed on other jobs, such as communication skills? Or, does it indicate that you have product knowledge, or point out that you enjoy meeting new people and that you are able to easily converse with people you don't know?)
4. If education is a major qualification for the job, does the résumé list courses you've taken that prepared you for the position applied for?
5. Does the résumé clearly list your accomplishments and contributions you made during your job experiences to date?
