It is possible to remain fairly objective, and yet see the world as other's see it. Sociologists need to remain objective, and yet empathize with the members of the society in order to be effective in research and understanding of the social life. In every society there are myths floating; a student of sociology must quickly identify the myths and scientific facts.
Applying research techniques is the way the sociological phenomenon can be analyzed scientifically.
When the available information is scarce, and the guiding principles to interpret the social events are meager, sometimes the sociologists need to rely on their subjective judgments and decisions. Many times, the mindset of the researchers affect the formulation, conduct and interpretation of the research. The dominant paradigm of the researcher influences his/her decisions and conclusions.
