In the United States today, a worker 55 or older is far more likely to be a union member than a young worker is. Men are slightly more likely to be union members than women. Workers in education and protective services jobs-that is, teachers, police officers, and firefighters-are most likely to be in a union. In contrast, only 2.9% of salespeople are members of unions.
