The characteristics that Go# listed as the requirements for a "better boss" are not at all surprising since if one stops and thinks in a totally unbiased and apolitical way, one will realize that in many cases as mentioned below:
1. Bosses tend to over-manage; since they feel otherwise they are no doing their job.
2. They tend to overlook that their employees are human beings and that they have needs beyond the office and their work. Therefore, they tend to dismiss any personal problems of the employees.
3. Many bosses are afraid, due to their own insecurity to bolster their employees lest they replace the boss someday. Hence, they would not assist and encourage the career building of the employee.
4. Especially in hi-tech firms, many employees are more technically skilled than their bosses. However, the boss is afraid to show this and sometimes would leave the employee to his own devices, rather than seeking help from outside.
These are some of the examples why it was essential for GO# to bring these eight characteristics out into the open, so that a frank discussion could be had on these points and people made to realize their own short-comings.
