In May 1953, Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first to reach the summit of Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain. Since that time over 150 other mountaineers have reached the summit, and groups have gone to Nepal from all over the world on expeditions. The arrival of "civilization" has brought a drastic change to the lifestyle of Nepal's Sherpa mountain people.
