Exercise 3

Using Google Earth, find a relatively undisturbed aquatic ecosystem somewhere on the planet that you can zoom in on to observe some features. For example, find a coastal wetland or a river system that seems to be undisturbed by human activities on adjoining land, such as farming or urban development. Write a description of what you see. Then find an example of a comparable system that has been disturbed by human activities and write a detailed comparison of these two areas. If possible, check in on these systems once during your course term and again at the end of the term and describe any changes to the systems that you can observe. Suggest a hypothesis to explain major changes.
