Exercise 39
Objectives: To practice projecting a positive first impression. To receive feedback on the image you project. To develop your ability to project a positive first impression.
AACSB: The primary AACSB learning standard skills developed through this exercise are reflective thinking and self-management, analytic skills, and communication abilities.
Preparation: You should have read and now understand how to project a positive first impression.
Pair off with someone you do not know. If you know everyone, select a partner you don't know well. Make one group of three if necessary. Do not begin your discussion until asked to do so.
Assume you are meeting for the first time. A mutual friend brought you together but was called to the telephone before introducing you. The mutual friend has asked you to introduce yourselves and get acquainted until he or she returns. When told to begin, introduce yourselves and get acquainted. Be sure to shake hands.
Using the Image Feedback sheet below, give each other feedback on the image you projected. To be useful, the feedback must be an honest assessment of the image your partner received of you. So you answer the questions with the input of your partner.
