Deck 14: Behavior Change Theories and Practices
What components are involved in the needs and resources assessment (N/RA) process?
The N/RA process includes key informant interviews, archival research, and surveys that examine the existing health and related economic, environmental, and social conditions/problems of the community. The process also involves an assessment of community assets and resources to determine the strengths, abilities, and potential resources that can be applied to address a particular health problem.
Performing a needs assessment involves many steps and is typically done with the intent of creating some sort of health intervention. The process of monitoring is considered a critical underlying step in the process of needs assessment-why?
Monitoring as a process involves active engagement during a needs assessment. One must be attuned to the implementation aspect as well as the feedback from the various stakeholders following implementation. Thus, monitoring heavily influences the evaluation process and subsequently helps define the effectiveness of the intervention. It also provides data that can be used to refine and modify interventions to improve achievement of health goals.
