In the given case study a company that is a leading company in the field of media and entertainment has its location at one of the counties. The county consists of many resorts and hotels and sees visits from around 24 million tourists in a year.
The employees working at the company and at many of the resorts and hotels have to commute for long hours and those living in the same county have to pay high amount of rent. The cost of buying a house in the county is also very high.
Issue
The dispute arose when a developer acquired land in the resort area and laid plans to build condominiums and keeping some of them below the market rate.
The Entertainment Company and other resorts and hotels opposed this move as they wanted that the county should confine itself for tourism related business only and should not be open for residential purposes.
They wanted that only tourism related activities should be carried out in the area and no residential houses should come up in the county as it would reduce the opportunity of doing businesses in the area. This is the primary issue in the case study.
