Edition 9ISBN: 978-1259376504 Exercise 1
How media literate do you think you are What about those around you-your parents, for example, or your best friend What are your weaknesses as a media-literate person
Explanation
Media literacy is defined as one's ability to read, interpret, and understand mass media messages and the biases associated with them. As a reader, one should be able to differentiate between the statements which are facts and the one being portrayed as facts. There are some media houses which try to influence the audience with their personal views, thus, a media literate person should not get influenced, and hold an individual viewpoint.
In order to evaluate one's friends and family's level of media literacy, one should inquire them about how much they time spend in reading, and how well is their interpretation. If they are proficient with reading, and are able to interpret and understand what they have read, then, such individuals would be considered as media literate.
As a media literate person, one's weakness would be determined by his or hers ability to be influenced by whatever he or she reads. If a person becomes over-reliant on media, and considers everything he or she learns from it, to be true; that would define his or her weakness as a media literate person.
