Clearly communicate the goals and objectives.
Determine whether or not the person understands the goals and objectives.
Determine whether or not the person has the skill set to do the work required.
Understand what motivates the particular person.
Use that understanding to move the person in the direction you want.

What do Six Sigma project teams do?
Six Sigma project teams focus on a particular issue. They investigate the root causes behind this problem or issue. To do this, they gather and analyze data related to the problem or issue. Once they feel they understand the complexities of a particular issue or problem, they propose, test, and implement a solution based on their findings.
