Deck 20: Neurologic System
1
Name the two parts of the nervous system.
The central nervous system (CNS) includes the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system (PNS) includes the 12 pairs of cranial nerves, the 31 pairs of spinal nerves, and their branches.
2
Describe the various functions of the central nervous system.
The cerebral cortex is the cerebrum's outer layer of nerve cell bodies. The cerebral cortex is the center for humans' highest functions, governing thought, memory, reasoning, sensation, and voluntary movement. Each half of the cerebrum is a hemisphere, and each hemisphere is divided into four lobes: frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital.

3
Describe the function of the PNS.
The PNS carries messages to the CNS from sensory receptors and from the CNS to muscles and glands.
4
Relate the name and function of each of the 12 cranial nerves to its assessment.
