You are a veteran correctional officer at a maximum-security prison in Huntsville, Texas. Most of the offenders you are assigned tosupervise are known violent gang members whohave committed such acts as rape, robbery, and murder. As the ranking member of your correctional team, you supervise twenty correctional officers whooversee 100 violent offenders. This past week, it has been brought toyour attention that three of your officers have been using violent tactics togain compliance from certain offenders. When you question the officers individually about their alleged violent behavior, each state that the three inmates in question proclaimed that they were going tohave the officers' wives and children raped and tortured. The officers felt that this was a direct threat on their families, and as a result, they needed tosend a message tothese offenders. As their immediate supervisor you must determine whether or not they were justified in their actions.
