Read the following paragraphs and answer the questions after each paragraph.
As a member of the Albany area folk community, I was familiar with a cassette package by Kim and Reggie Harris about the Underground Railroad, and so I begin there. Children at the primary level can learn through music so much more easily. I introduce sea chanties that tell of the "Triangle Trade," explaining the slave ships to children. I then present the slave songs of the plantations. Because young children learn and retain more through active participation, after looking at books depicting the conditions on a slave ship, we actually turn down the lights and imagine the rug in my classroom to be one of the decks in the hold of a slave ship.
