Total Chemical Corp. (TCC) developed a goal-setting program aimed at teams that operate the petrochemical process in TCC's plants. The goal-setting program encouraged team leaders to frequently remind team members to 'do their best'. TCC's executives also rewarded team leaders who pushed employees to complete impossible deadlines. One year after the goal-setting program was introduced, TCC's executives couldn't see much improvement in job performance. Explain why goal setting might not have worked effectively here.
