When Nel was born,her parents found out that part of her spinal column failed to close completely during fetal development.This condition resulted in partial paralysis of her legs and loss of bowel and bladder control.Today,Nel attends a local high school where she is a sophomore.She wears braces on her legs and is able to walk unassisted.
