Evaluate the following scenario in order to identify which of the five interpersonal conflict handling styles are most appropriate for immediate use by Isabel, the supervisor. Describe the specific actions that she should take immediately in order to most effectively deal with the situation that she is facing. Be sure to clarify any assumptions you make in developing your answer.
Isabel, a supervisor, enters the company break room just in time to see a loud argument escalating between two of her subordinates, Kyle and Rico. Both men are shouting at each other, and Rico is waving his fists at Kyle. Isabel attempts to intervene, but Rico continues to shout and wave his fists, demanding an apology from Kyle. Rico threatens: "I'll pulverize the scrawny wise guy if he doesn't apologize for that remark. Go ahead and fire me--see if I care!" Kyle says that his remark was made in total innocence, and has been misinterpreted by Rico. He insists that it would be inappropriate for him to apologize for Rico's inability to understand his appropriate use of the English language. Isabel is convinced that she is on the verge of witnessing an incidence of workplace violence, since Kyle is known for his stubbornness, and Rico (who has a reputation for his "hot temper"), has bragged about winning many a barroom brawl.
