The Answer is Interval scales are the third type of measurement in quantitative research and involve the use of numbers with equal units of measurement. However, even though numbers are used, there is no true zero point on the scale. For example, most psychological and educational tests are based on an interval type of scale. An individual can obtain a range of scores on an IQ test, for example, 20-200, but can an IQ of zero be measured? Someone could theoretically score a zero, but the true score will not be known, or cannot be measured, because of the limitations of the instrument. Other examples of interval scales are test scores, even standard test scores such as national exams (ACT and SAT tests). There is the National Counselor Exam, NCE, for counselors and the Praxis II tests for teachers which both are based on an interval scale. Both tests are used to measure level of knowledge in their respective disciplines.
