Correct Answer:
Varies. Structural functionalism sees stratification as functional for society. An example is that they provide a just-so story for the middle class. That is, if a person works hard and plays by the rules, they will succeed. The poor are used for evidence of that system working. Conflict theory sees stratification as the result of power and domination and the haves and have-nots. Evolutionary theory shows that as societies progressed from hunter-gatherer to modern industrial societies, stratification was functional in the sense that it helped with the evolution of types of societies. However, evolutionary theory holds that there will be conflict.
