THERE COMES A TIME FOR CHANGE
A time to step back from the responsibilities of a farm and familiarity of a small community.
A time for new cultural options, diversification of acquaintances, and employment prospects.
Now is the time to enjoy the opportunities and high-density lifestyle of the megacity!
Amenities of the megacity include:
*A higher ratio of females to males
* Younger age structure
* Heterogeneous population in terms of race, ethnicity, religion and socioeconomic status
* Education opportunities
*More jobs because of industry, economic development, and technology advances
Says citizen #9,725,638: "I enjoy the potential for more than 10 million neighbors. The merge of the megacity into an urban agglomeration provides an incredible crossroad of cultures."

Suburban sprawl is a patchwork of vacant and developed tracts around the edges of cities that contain a low population density. This sprawl increases the economic disparity between older neighborhoods and newer suburbs. Smart growth protects open space in highly developed areas while promoting growth in areas that could be helped by growth. Smart growth mixes land uses, incorporates compact development and creates communities in which it is easy to walk from one place to another, and preserves important environmental areas. Suburban sprawl is not smart growth because the further development extending around the edges of the suburbs cuts deeper into the surrounding rural land causing environmental problems such as loss of wetlands, loss of biological habitat, air pollution and water pollution. Smart growth would include zoning that would regulate land use and preserve important environmental areas.

__________ is an excellent example of a city with rapid spread of urban sprawl while __________ is a good example of a city that avoided the problem of suburban sprawl.
