Exam 11: Team Dynamics, Creativity and Problem Solving, and Decision Making
Many of the TV reality shows have an element of teamwork. However, they often have members of the teams doing negative things to each other to get ahead. Do you believe that these negative examples of poor teamwork influence people's behavior in real-life groups? Can you think of any TV shows that give positive examples of good teamwork?
Yes, I believe that the negative examples of poor teamwork on TV reality shows can influence people's behavior in real-life groups. When viewers see contestants backstabbing or sabotaging each other to get ahead, it can normalize and even glorify these behaviors, leading some individuals to believe that it's acceptable to act in similar ways in their own teams or groups.
However, there are also TV shows that give positive examples of good teamwork. For example, "The Amazing Race" showcases teams working together to overcome challenges and achieve their goals. "Survivor" also has moments of positive teamwork, where contestants come together to support each other and strategize as a cohesive unit. These shows can serve as examples of how teamwork should function in a positive and supportive manner. It's important for viewers to recognize and emulate these positive examples of teamwork rather than the negative ones.
Decision making is the process of selecting an alternative course of action that will solve a problem.

The younger generations have been called the "me generation" because they care only about themselves. Do you agree with this statement? How does putting oneself as number one affect group performance? Which group role is illustrated through the "me generation" statement?
I do not agree with the statement that the younger generations are the "me generation" who only care about themselves. While it is true that individuals may prioritize their own needs and desires, it is unfair to generalize an entire generation in this way. Many young people are actively involved in social and environmental causes, and are passionate about making a positive impact on the world around them.
Putting oneself as number one can affect group performance in a few different ways. On one hand, prioritizing one's own needs can lead to a lack of cooperation and teamwork within a group, which can ultimately hinder overall performance. On the other hand, individuals who prioritize self-care and personal growth may bring a sense of confidence and motivation to the group, ultimately enhancing performance.
The "me generation" statement illustrates the group role of the individualist. This individual is often focused on their own needs and desires, and may struggle to see the bigger picture or work effectively within a team. However, it is important to recognize that individuals can grow and change, and may develop a more collaborative mindset as they gain more experience and perspective.
