As described in the text, validation of a simulation involves insuring that the simulation yields "correct" results when compared to the results of the actual real-world system. If this is so,why run simulations at all,why not just use the results of the actual situation which we obviously already know?

This is a tricky little question.Validation is discussed on page 657 of the text.Of course, once the model is producing "correct" results compared to the real-world the job of the analyst is then to alter the values of some of the controllable parameters to discern the effect of these changes on the model's results. These changes from the base values, then, represent what might have happened in the real world if those parameters had been changed and become a prescription for change in the real world. The value of the simulation is that it allows you to try out several changes in parameters on the model rather than experimenting in the real world.
